Brooke August has served Walla Walla University Athletics since 2010 as associate athletics director, head athletic trainer and senior woman leader. With more than two decades of experience in athletic training and sports medicine, she is dedicated to providing exceptional, Christ-centered care while supporting the physical, mental and spiritual well-being of Wolves student-athletes.
Since joining Walla Walla University, August has overseen the transformation of the athletic training department into a modern, full-service sports medicine clinic. Under her leadership, the department has expanded to include scheduled patient appointments, updated therapeutic equipment and modalities, and strong partnerships with physicians and healthcare providers throughout the region. She has also helped integrate strength and conditioning into the athletic performance model, establish baseline fitness standards that have contributed to improved athlete wellness and reduced injury rates, and develop a student worker program that provides hands-on experience in sports medicine.
During her tenure, the athletic training staff has also received significant recognition. Team physician Dr. Cory Mitchell was honored as the 2024 Washington State Athletic Trainers' Association Team Physician of the Year, while athletic training student worker Alex Wiedemann was named Walla Walla University's Student Employee of the Year in 2024.
Prior to joining Walla Walla University, August served as head athletic trainer at Whitman College from 2007 to 2010. She previously worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at the University of California, Santa Cruz, from 2005 to 2007 and gained additional clinical experience serving regional high schools in Spokane, Washington, and Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, from 2003 to 2005.
August earned a Bachelor of Arts in kinesiology with an emphasis in athletic training from Whitworth University in 2003 before completing a Master of Arts in athletic training at San Jose State University in 2007.
She is licensed as an athletic trainer in the state of Washington and holds certification through the Board of Certification (ATC). She is also a National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer (NASM-CPT), a Barbell Rehab Method practitioner and a USA Powerlifting certified coach. August is an active member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association, the NAIA Athletic Trainers' Association and the NAIA Senior Woman Leaders organization.
August is passionate about mentoring student-athletes during one of the most formative seasons of their lives. She believes athletic training extends beyond injury care and strives to provide holistic, Christ-centered healthcare that supports the whole person. Alongside her husband, Joey August, Walla Walla University's strength and conditioning coach, she is committed to fostering a safe, supportive and championship-minded environment where student-athletes can thrive.
Outside of athletics, August enjoys personal training, coaching powerlifting, supporting Seattle sports teams and exploring local coffee shops.
