Wolves End Six Game Losing Streak

Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – The Walla Walla University Wolves (6-11, 3-9) out hit the Multnomah University Lions (2-12, 0-11) .220 to .152 to win three sets to none on Saturday night.

Both teams battled hard in the first set with the Lions in control until the Wolves found their first lead of the set at 11-10 with a MU service error. Natalie Skeoch and Melissa Barton teamed up for a block to add to the Wolves lead and it was all WWU after that with a final score of 25-19.

Set two started off with the Wolves firmly in control getting out to a 9-1 lead. With WWU subs in the game, the Lions were able to recover but with key digs by Megan Gregg and Kills by Maria Darling, the Wolves were able to hold off the Lions 25-23.

The Lions started strong in the third set with leads of 4-0, 8-4 and 13-8 but the Wolves wouldn't give up. With kills from Emily Allen, Natalie Skeoch and an ace by Alissa Casey, the score was brought to 13-16. The Wolves would see the set tied up at 17 but a service error and an attack error combined with a couple aces of MU's, the Wolves would see a 17-21 deficit. Lexi Shanko subbed back in to the game and crushed the ball through the seam of the block for a kill. The next point was a block from Melissa Barton and Morgan Doyle. Walla Walla University would finally take the win, 25-23, off a service error by Multnomah University.

"I'm really proud of my team" said Coach Hepker. "Everyone had a chance to play and we had contributions from the entire team. Megan Gregg ended the night with six digs and Natalie Skeoch continued playing error free volleyball with four more kills on fifteen attempts with no errors and added two blocks".

Stat leaders for the Wolves were Emily Allen and Lexi Shanko with five kills and no errors. Lexi would also add four aces to her night. Maria Darling with ten kills, four aces and eleven digs and Rylee Sutton with a team high eighteen digs. Alissa Casey and Lauren Bosler had fifteen and thirteen assists respectively and Melissa Barton lead the team with three blocks.

Stat leaders for Multnomah were Miranda Halverson with fifteen kills, Patricia Batoon with twelve and Marissa Rhodes with thirty two assists.

The Wolves play next at home against Corban and Northwest Christian at 3:30pm on Friday and 7:30pm on Saturday.
