Wolves Volleyball Loses at Home to the Owls in Three

9/25/2015 7:30:00 PM

Box Score COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. - The Wolves of Walla Walla University fall at home after giving up three straight sets (25-20, 25-7, 25-11) to the Oregon Tech Volleyball team in a Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) match on Friday. The Wolves move to 6-7 and 2-5 in conference play while the Owls improve to 10-4 and 5-3 in the conference.

In set one, the Wolves came out strong and got an early lead but the Oregon Tech Owls came back and tied the game at 8. The intensity of the serving of the Owls caused the wolves to go on the defensive and ultimately proved to be the game changer.

The Owls offense was led by Kristin DePaoli with five kills in the first set while the team hit a .188. Perri Shanko was the offensive leader of the Wolves with three kills while her team hit a .132.

Aggressive serving by the Owls and poor serve receive by the Wolves were the story for the rest of the match. Although Oregon Tech was only credited for six aces, the majority of their serves resulted in Walla Walla giving an easy free ball over the net.

"We played our style of intense volleyball" said Oregon Techs Head Coach, Joey Parnell when asked about the style of play in the final two sets.

Kristin DePaoli had a match high thirteen kills and four blocks while Waverly Green led the match with thirty three assists. The Owls were led on defense by Mykala Rubey and Isabella Foss with eight and seven digs respectively.

"We started the match strong but then couldn't handle OIT's serves" said Don Hepker, Head Coach of the Wolves. "When we had a good pass, our offense was running smooth. The problem was we couldn't get our passes to our setters very often."

The Wolves were led by Lexi and Perri Shanko with six and four kills each. Perri added three blocks to help her team out. Rylee Sutton had a match high thirteen digs and Lauren Bosler led the Wolves with twelve assists.

The Wolves hope to return to their winning ways on Saturday, September 26 when they face #8 Southern Oregon University at home.
