Quick Start of Lions Too Much for Wolves

Box Score Paul Starkebaum, Sports Information Director

College Place, Wash.- The Multnomah Lions (3-12, 1-10) did not get many chances tonight but they took advantage of their opportunities, as they scored five times on eleven shots on goal.  The Wolves played their opponent even the majority of the night, however, Multnomah scored three quick goals and the Wolves were unable to generate enough offense to get back into the match.  Noe Favila finished with a natural hat trick for the Lions tonight, while Josh Fry had six saves and Aaron Martinez lead the Wolves with five shot attempts.  With 15 shots it was one of the Wolves' best offensive showings of the season but Lions keeper Manny Guillermo roamed the goal efficiently with seven saves, earning the shutout.

The Lions came out hot, scoring their first goal in the fourth minute off the foot of Noe Favila who weaved through the Wolves defense to put a shot past the keeper from five yards out.  Noe would again find the net two minutes later with another unassisted goal, again taking a shot deep in the box that found its way around the keeper.  In the 11th minute, Noe scored his third and final goal of the night as he dribbled at the keeper and dropped in a shot towards the bottom corner.  For the remainder of the first half the Wolves played even with the Lions, but could not find the net.  Walla Walla ended the period with a flurry of shot attempts but none broke through for a goal.

The second half opened similar to the first, with Multnomah scoring two goals in the first 10 minutes of the match.  Michael Kochis scored the fourth goal of the match off of a cross from Noe Favila.  Minutes later, Edgar De Los Santos scored a goal off another cross from Noe Favila, who had a foot in every score tonight for the Lions.  The Wolves put up six more shot attempts in the second half, but none of them found the net.

Next weekend is the final weekend of matches for the Wolves as they head to Montana to face the University of Great Falls Argos and the Carroll College Fighting Saints.
