College Place, Wash.- After a slow start the Wolves turned up the play, but it was not enough to take a set off of Northwest Christian University (NCU).  The Beacons won today in 3 sets, after some strong play by Kendall Bergsten (11 kills and a block) and setter Maci Beierle (15 assists and 5 digs).  Walla Walla had a hard time on the attack, which the defense of Northwest Christian contributed too.

The Beacons Maci Beiele served could not be broken in the first set, as they jumped out 9 to 1 at the start.  After a couple of back and forth points, Keri Schwarz stepped up a delivered another long streak of points, including four aces in the run.  The Wolves struggled to get going in this set, and it lead to an eventual 9 to 25 lose.

Set number two didn't start out much different, with the NCU getting off to a hot start.  A kill by Maria Darling put the score at 14 to 5, and from that point one it was back and forth for the set and the rest of the match.  A combination of consistent attacks and kills by Maria Darling and Lauren Barlow led to a 7-2 run late in the set, but a kill by Haley Damian ended the second set 16-25 going to the Beacons.

The third set would prove the best of the match for the Wolves and one of the better for the Wolves in conference play this season.  The Wolves really got their attack going, with several different players contributing kills, including Caldora Blackburn, who recorded her first of the season.  A kill late in the match by Kendall Bergsten of the Beacons put them up 22-17.  The Wolves did score four more points in the set, but it was not enough to stop NCU, who took the set and the match with a 21-25 victory.

The Wolves are back in action on Sunday after, when they take on #24 ranked Corban University.  The match will take place on College Place High School.  The game will be streaming live on stretchinternet.com.
