Box Score Paul Starkebaum, Sports Information Director

Kirkland, Wash.- Despite the tightest scoring margin of the season, the Wolves lost their road opener.  Northwest University (7-2, 3-1) proved too much for Walla Walla (0-5, 0-5) despite keeping the match closer than they have all season, the Wolves were shutout.  Northwest put 21 shots on goa, and Josh Fry had another big game with 16 stops, but it was not enough as the Eagles won 5-0.

Just passed the seven-minute mark, Kieren Raney scored the first goal of the match for Northwest University with a boot from 18 yards out on the right side.  Jake Morse and Luis Rangel recorded assists on the point.  Josh Fry would record four saves before Northwest score again of an unassisted goal by Gordon Elijah in the 35th minute of the match.

Early in the 2nd period, the defense of Walla Walla started to see a few more breakdowns.  The Eagles scored two goals in the first 15 minutes of the second, including a goal by Kyle Zimmerman at the 53rd minute and the fourth of the match by Obi Esonu, which was assisted by Kyle Zimmerman.  Josh Fry would record another four saves before Eagle Chris Iacolucci recorded the fifth on final goal of the match off a cross from Luis Rangel.

"We are slowly getting better," Coach Burns said of his team.  "The boys played as a team and showed a lot of heart."  While Walla Walla has struggle this year to gain possession of the ball, in today's match they had more shots on goal than in any of their previous matches, as well as more corner kicks.   Coach Burns is look forward, and hopeful about what he is seeing.  "We still have lots of work to do, but we're headed in the right direction"

Wolves are back in action on Sunday, as they head to The Evergreen State College to take on the Geoducks at 1p.m.
