Raiders Defeat Wolves

Ashland, Ore. – After a tough loss on Friday afternoon, the Wolves had to face a tough Southern Oregon Raiders team they played just a week ago. Right away the Raiders jumped out on the Wolves with we placed blocks and hitting at a .462 clip. Walla Walla struggle never got their feet under them in the match and the Raiders won in straight sets.

Southern Oregon's Dani Johnson opened the match with a kill, to which Nilah Mata'afa answered right back with a kill of her own to even things at one apiece. The Raiders took over from there, going up 8-3 before a Walla Walla timeout. Southern closed out the opening set in dominate fashion, and a kill by Elliott Cook closed out the opener 25-6 in their favor.

The second set would be the most competitive of the match, and the Wolves matched the Raiders point-for-points early. A kill from Caldora Blackburn put the Wolves within two points and Sarah Halversen followed that up with an ace to put Walla Walla within a point, 11-10. Southern Oregon took advantage of an attack error from the Wolves and rattled off 4 straight points to take control of the set. An attack error from Walla Walla gave the second to the Raiders 25-14.

With the match within grasp, Southern Oregon went hard in the third set, with 16 kills on a .433 attack percentage. The Wolves only had four errors in the final set, but never seemed to be able to find a groove. After a kill from Nilah Mata'afa to put the Wolves within three, Southern scored six straight points to create a gap in the score Walla Walla would be unable to fill. Southern Oregon's Haleigh Wagman scored the final kill of the match, as the Raiders too the third 25-9 and the match 3-0.

Walla Walla head's back home for their final two home games of the regular season. Thursday night, October 19 they host Northwest University at 7:00 p.m.
