Portland, Ore. – Walla Walla battle hard in the second and third sets on Friday afternoon but it was not enough to defeat the Knights.  Warner Pacific's Janessa Mast had 28 kills as the Knights beat the Wolves in four sets.

The Knights came out firing early, jumping out to a 1-12 lead over Walla Walla in the first set.  Walla Walla never seemed to get their feet under them, and Warner Pacific played a mostly mistake-free set in a 25-9 victory to go up 1-0 on the Wolves.

In the second the Wolves turned this around, playing even with the Knights through the first five points.  After letting the Knights build a four-point lead, the Wolves came all the way back and a kill by Morgan Doyle tied up the set 11-11.  After getting up a couple of points, the Wolves stumbled and allowed the Knights to tie things back up.  A block by Sarah Halversen and Jenn Bosler gave Walla Walla back the lead 17-16.  Things stayed tight until a kill from Lauren Barlow put Walla Walla up 22-21 and they would not give it back from there.  The Wolves finished off the set 25-22 after an attack error from the Knights and the match was tied 1-1 going into the third.

Lauren Barlow opened the third with a kill, putting the Wolves up early.  But it was the Knights Janessa Mast who would be the difference in the third.  The match went back and forth, but kill from Mast put the Knights up 18-15 and the Wolves would not recover.  The Knights took the third 25-18 and Mast finished with 9 kills in the frame.

The momentum stayed with the Knights in the fourth set.  They got up by five points early and the Wolves were not able to find a way to close the gap.  Melisa Ljuca of Warner Pacific put the final touches on the match with a kill to give the Knights a 25-15 victory in the set as the Knights won the match 3-1.

Walla Walla's Lauren Barlow finished with 12 kills, and Caldora Blackburn finished with 9.

Walla Walla plays Multnomah University Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. in Portland, Oregon.
