Wolves Wrap Up Season Against #14 Eastern Oregon

La Grande, Ore. – The Wolves ended their season tonight against the #14 Eastern Oregon Mountaineers. Walla Walla put up a good fight but the Mounties proved to be too much as they defeat the Wolves in straight sets.

After an attack error from Eastern Oregon, the Wolves jumped out to an early 4-2 lead in the opening set. The Mountaineers quickly rebounded, taking back the lead. Lauren Barlow even the scored back up with a kill, but from there it was all Eastern Oregon as they ran out the lead to 13-7. The Wolves matched the Mounties point-for-point the rest of the set, but Walla Walla never gained any ground and lost the set 25-18.

Unlike the first set, Eastern quickly built a lead on Walla Walla with an efficient attack at the net which was powered mainly by Malia Mills and Amanda Miller who each have several kills in the set. The Wolves were not able to answer and lost the second set 25-10 to go down 2-0 in the match.

Things were looking up for Walla Walla in the third set as they played even with the Mountaineers through the first five points, but a kill from Megan Bunn gave the Mountaineers a 6-5 lead. Eastern built their lead from there. Despite several powerful kills from the Wolves in the third set they fell behind, and a kill from Emily Nay gave the Mountaineers s 25-13 victory over Walla Walla in the third and final set.

Lauren Barlow led the Wolves in kills with 8, Lauren Bosler in assists with 10, and Nilah Mata'afa in digs with 11.

Tonight's match concluded the volleyball season for Walla Walla, and was the last contest for any Wolves team this fall. The Wolves winter season has begun, and the next game will be next Saturday night, November 11, as the men's basketball team host New Hope Christian College for their first home game of the season.
