How It Happened

In the opening set the Wolves and Beacons matched each other point for point, with neither team finding separation.  The score was tied 11-11 after an ace for Nilah Mata'afa and it looked like the Wolves may be looking for an upset.  A kill from Beacons Natalie Downes put the Beacons back up and from there they controlled the set.  The Beacons went on a 14-4 run, topped off with a kill from Claire Salness as the Beacons took the set 25-15.

Northwest Christian's Natalie Dowes scored a kill to put the Beacons up 4-1 to open the match.  Walla Walla struggled to get into a rhythm early, but the Wolves went on a 3-0 run to get within a 1 point, down just 10-9.  The Beacons regained control of the match with Maci Beierle setting up teammates all over the floor.  A kill from Kasey Campell ended the set, 25-18 in favor of the Beacons.

Walla Walla came out on a mission in the third set and a kill from Lauren Barlow put the Wolves up 5-2.  Northwest Christian answered with a run of their own and tied the match 8-8.  Scoring went back and forth and the Wolves got within one point, down 13-12.  That would be as close as the Wolves would get for the match.  The Beacons had seven players score at least three kills tonight, and in the third set they continued to spread the scoring around.  An error by the Wolves scored the final point of the match, as the Beacons took the third set 25-17, and the match 3-0.
