Women's Volleyball Takes No.7 Corban to Four Sets

College Place, Wash. - -Walla Walla hosted the No-7-Ranked Warriors of Corban University Thursday evening. The Warriors (13-3, 10-0 CCC) hit at a .375 clip to drop the Wolves (1-17, 0-11 CCC) in four sets, 25-7, 25-16, 21-25, 25-9. The Warriors continued their impressive start to the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) season, winning their 10th game in-a-row and becoming the first team to 10 wins in the CCC.
 
Set one was one to forget for the Wolves, as the Warriors displayed the firepower of a ranked opponent. The Warriors scored 10 of the first 11 points, as the Wolves contributed five errors in the opening stages of the set. From here the Warriors extended their lead to 16-3. After two Wolves points, the Warriors continued their impressive start, putting together a 9-2 run to close out set one in a victory, 25-7.
 
The Wolves started set two in a much better fashion, scoring the first two points of the set and not allowing the Warriors to build a lead as they did in the opening set. With the score knotted at 11, the Warriors assembled a 4-0 run that served to be a pivotal one. Despite the Wolves battling back and cutting the lead to two at 17-15, the Warriors held onto their lead and eventually claimed the second set, 25-16.
 
With Walla Walla running out of time and entering the set down 2-0 in the match, the Wolves started in an 11-3 hole and the Warriors looked like they would run away with the set. The Wolves, however, continued to claw back. After the Wolves put together a 4-0 run, the Warriors answered with a 3-0 run. The Wolves, however, were not done. Three Warrior points were sandwiched by a 5-1 run and a 7-1 run by the Wolves to give the home team a 19-18 lead, their first lead since scoring the opening point of the set. After the Warriors tied it up at 19, the Wolves went on their most important run of the match, a 3-0 run that gave them some breathing room. Despite a Warriors rally, the Wolves capitalized off Warrior errors and scored the three points they needed to claim a set three victory, 25-21.
 
Set four saw the Warriors start similar to set one, as the team displayed the same firepower that led Warriors to a set one victory. With the score sitting at 6-2, Warriors reeled off a remarkable 13-0 run, taking advantage of Wolves' mistakes while riding the hot serving of Jadyn Mullen. The Warriors cruised to a set four victory, 25-9 and claimed the match in four sets.
 
The Wolves had four players with four-plus kills, while Krista Schafer notched 13 assists. 
 
Northwest Christian University (11-7, 3-6 CCC) represents the Wolves' next opportunity to steal a win. The match will take place on Sunday, October 13 at 1 p.m. on Windemuth Court.
