San Marcos, Calif. – Walla Walla kicked off their California road trip by heading down to San Marcos to take on the University of Saint Katherine (USK). Despite giving up the first two sets to the Firebirds, the Wolves responded and forced a winner take all set-five, but fell 15-11 in the decisive set, as the Firebirds captured the match Tuesday afternoon.

GAME NOTES:
- The Wolves had the Firebirds on brink of an opening set loss, however, the Firebirds rode a 7-0 run to claim the set one, 25-18 and continued this momentum into a set-two victory, 25-13.
- With their backs against the wall, the Wolves responded in set three. While holding a slim 13-11 lead, the Wolves put together a 4-0 run that provided them with a 6-point cushion. The Wolves would eventually hold onto their lead and claim set three, 25-17.
- The Wolves scored the first two points of set four while the teams continued to go back-and-forth moving through the opening stages of the set, as the Wolves held another slim lead midway through the set, 10-7. The Wolves then went on a decisive 7-3 run to extend their lead and rode this momentum, finishing off the set with a 6-0 run to knot up the match 2-2 with a 25-14 victory.
- Set five saw USK score three of the first four points of the set, as the Firebirds continued to hold that three-point lead at 10-7. A 3-0 run put the Wolves on the brink of elimination, but the Wolves displayed another case of grit and put together a 4-0 run to climb right back into the set, 11-13, however USK scored the final two points off Wolves errors to claim the set, 15-13, and won the match.
PLAYER HIGHLIGHTS:
- Despite the loss, juniors Sarah Halversen (12) and Jenn Bosler (7) recorded career high in kills.
- The 15 aces by the Wolves were the most since 2014, as they were led by Halversen and her career high (5).
- USK was led by Anela Kalavi (13 kills) and McKenzie Bartlett (12 kills), while Elizabeth Muriel notched 19 assists.
NEXT GAME:
The Wolves look to regroup as they will begin day one of the La Sierra Invitational Tournament on Wednesday with game one set to begin at 12 p.m. versus San Diego Christian College and game two set to begin at 6 p.m. versus the University of Antelope Valley.
