Women's Basketball Drops Road Series at No. 22-Ranked Northwest Christian University

Eugene, Ore. – The Walla Walla women's basketball continued their 2019-20 season, traveling down to No. 22-Ranked Northwest Christian University (NCU) for a two-game back-to-back series.   
 
Game 1: 
THE BASICS:

 GAME NOTES:
  • The Beacons raced out of the gates, scoring 14 of the game's first 16 points and continued their hot start, limiting the Wolves on offense to three made field goals to take a 28-6 after the opening quarter.
  • The Wolves chipped into the lead, as the Wolves cut the deficit down to 11 as part of a 9-2 run. The Wolves continued cutting into the deficit for the remaining part of the quarter, as they continued their hot shooting from three-point land. The Wolves knocked down 6-for-12 from beyond the arc, led by Isabella Robles, who knocked down all four in the quarter. The Beacons took a 39-33 lead heading into the half.
  • Coming out of the half, just like the first quarter, the Beacons started the game off in a huge run, scoring 15 of the first 17 points to start the half to extend their lead to 19 at 54-35. The Beacons extended their lead to 23 after the third quarter, shooting 84-percent from the field in the quarter.
  • The Wolves cut the lead down to 16 with six-plus, however, the Beacons limited the Wolves from there and pushed the lead back to 20, cutting the Wolves chances at a comeback.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Four Wolves scored in double-digits, led by Jaliyah Casem, who tied her career-high with 22 points.
  • Four Beacons scored in double-digits, led by reigning Red Lion Player of the Week Morgan McKinney, who scored 25 points on 10-for-14 shooting, to go along with eight rebounds and five assists.
  • The Wolves turned 18 Beacon turnovers into 24 points, while knocking down 11 triples, but could not overcome the efficient Beacon offense. NCU shot 57-percent from the field, dished out 23 assists and knocked down 10 triples.

 GAME NOTES:
  • The Wolves started their second matchup with the Beacons much better as they built an 11-7 after the first four minutes. The Beacons weathered the storm and broke a 13-13 tie, ending the quarter on a 7-2 run to take a 20-15 lead after the opening quarter.
  • The beginning of the second quarter doomed the Wolves as they were held scoreless for the first five minutes while the Beacons scored 12 straight points. The Beacons maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the half and took a 42-22 lead into the halftime break.
  • The Beacons added onto their halftime lead and controlled the second half, as the lead reached 30 midway through the third quarter.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Carolina Montes led the Wolves with 20 points while Jaliyah Casem and Jacqueline Saucedo contributed 10 points each.
  • The Beacons were led by Kayce Mock and her 26 points and 24 rebounds, as she picked up 11 of the Beacons 25 offensive rebounds on the night.
  • The Beacons outscored the Wolves in second chance-points 29-7.
The Wolves are back in action next Friday when they host Eastern Oregon University. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 pm on Windemuth Court.
