Women's Volleyball: Wolves Conclude Season Against No. 23-Ranked Bushnell University

COLLEGE PLACE, WASH. – Walla Walla concluded their 2021 season, hosting the No. 23-Ranked Beacons of Bushnell University (BU) on Windemuth Court Saturday night. The Beacons hit at a .300-plus percentage to guide them to a 3-1 win over the Wolves. The set two win for the Wolves was their second-ever set win against a ranked opponent since joining the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC).

THE BASICS:
Final: #23 BU 3, Walla Walla 1
Set Scores: 20-25, 25-18, 11-25, 17-25
Records:  #23 BU (20-6, 16-6 CCC), Walla Walla (0-23, 0-22 CCC)

 GAME NOTES:
  • The Beacons opened set one on a 5-2 run and would hold on for the win in a back-and-forth set. The Wolves cut the deficit to three multiple times, but the Beacons responded each time, and eventually a 6-2 run late in the set would down the Wolves.
  • Set two would see the Wolves have their best start of the season, building an 8-2 lead right out of the gate, capitalizing on multiple Beacon errors. The Wolves continued their attack, pushing their lead out to 19-11 and eventually holding on for a 25-18 set two win.
  • Unfortunately for the Wolves, the Beacons would start the pivotal set three with a 10-3 run and would go on for a 25-11 win and the momentum continued into set four, as the Beacons built a quick 6-2 lead. The Wolves would cut the deficit to three midway through the set, but the Beacon attack proved to be too much for the Wolves, taking set four 25-17 and winning the match 3-1.
PLAYER HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Sierra Jenkins (13 kills) led the Bushnell attack, as six Beacon players recorded at least five kills. Makenna Northern (22) and Peyton Ritchie (15 kills) led the passing department, while Bella Parque led the defense, registering 25 digs.
  • Gabrielle Browning led the Wolves' attack, registering 17 kills to go along with 13 digs. Browning etched her name into the Wolves record book, as her 196 kills for the season puts her with the second-most in program history since joining the CCC, while also recording 11 double-digit kill games, which is the most in program history.
  • Summer Boulais had her best outing, recording a career-high 10 kills for the first double-digit kill game of her career.
  • Meherio Krainer led the passing department, recording 29 assists, her second-most on the season. Krainer ends the season with 299 assists, the fourth most for a Wolves setter since joining the CCC
  • The Wolves defense was led by Idalis Bedore, who recorded 16 digs, her second-most on the season.
