Men's Soccer: Bushnell University Defeats Wolves in 3-2 Thriller

Beacons Score Three First-Half Goals

COLLEGE PLACE, WASH. –  Walla Walla continued their opening weekend conference homestand, hosting the Beacons of Bushnell University Sunday afternoon. Three first-half goals would be the difference, fueling the Beacons to a victory. The Wolves would claw back in the second half, scoring two goals, but came up empty in finding the game tying goal, as the Beacons picked up their first conference win of the season.

THE BASICS:

GAME NOTES:
  • The Beacons scored their first two goals within a four-minute span (19' & 23') and then tacked on a third goal with just under five minutes, taking a 3-0 lead into halftime.
  • The Wolves chipped away, scoring three minutes into the second half, as Damien Dennis took a deflection off of the Beacons Goalkeeper and found the bottom left of the net. 
  • The Wolves would strike again as a Beacon foul in the box gave the Wolves a penalty kick and Ben Hewett converted the Wolves second goal in the 66th minute to bring the deficit to within one goal.
  • The Wolves continue to press and had numerous chances, but would be unsuccessful in finding the game tying goal and the Beacons would claim the match.
THE NUMBERS:
  • Each team had plenty of scoring opportunities, as WWU recorded 14 shots on goal, while the Beacons notched eight.
  • Despite the loss, the Wolves scored the most goals in their history playing Bushnell University.
  • Both Goalkeepers were active throughout the match. Beacons Goalkeeper Julian Hernandez totaled 10 saves, while the Wolves keeper Diego Molina recorded five on the afternoon.
