Wolves Win in Home Opener Against Northwest Indian College

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. — Walla Walla University Women's Basketball start the season off strong in their home opener against Northwest Indian College Thursday night. The Wolves won, 87-48, making them 1-0 to start off the season. 

The Wolves came out playing a much faster paced game than we have seen before, scoring 10 points off of fast breaks. Walla Walla also capitalized on Northwest Indian's turnovers, scoring 28 points off of their turnovers. The Wolves proved tonight that their bench can be just as strong as their starting five, as everyone on the team contributed to the win. 

Head Coach Tony Nakashima was proud of his team stating, "It was a great team win. I felt really good about the outcome—it's a good start to our season. Everyone contributed [to the win] and we will use this as a building block as we continue to get better."

Returner Jaliyah Casem started the season off right with 21 points and five assists, reminding everyone that she was top scorer for the CCC in the 2022-23 season. Chariah Daniels also made waves tonight with her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Newcomers Maren Jones and Mireyah Lopez had a fantastic opening night with 11 points apiece. 

For the Eagles of Northwest Indian College, Ashylyn Grady had a double-double and led with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Wiwmu Mills followed Grady with 11 points, and Jordan Latorre who had 10. 

The Wolves are back on home court will they will go up against Montana Tech Sunday, November 12 at 1 pm.
