COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. — Walla Walla University took on travel partner Lewis-Clark State College Thursday night on home court. Despite Walla Walla's efforts and bringing the game to one-point at the half, Lewis-Clark State came out on top with a 20-point win, 82-62.
How it Happened
The Wolves started out keeping up with the Warriors, tying the score twice in the first quarter, and even taking a one-point lead. However, the Warriors didn't let the Wolves get too comfortable, and went on a 10-point run with Maddie Holm contributing to half of those points. The first quarter ended with LC State taking a 11-point lead.
The second quarter was a different story. The Wolves made their comeback, with a buzzer-beater layup to get the game to one-point from Chariah Daniels. Daniels received the ball from Jaliyah Casem, after freshman Grace Casagrande got the defensive rebound off of a missed 3-pointer from Ella Nelson. Walla Walla outscored the Warriors, 21 to 11 this quarter which was seen through their quick ball movement, defense, and fast breaks.
The third and fourth quarters however, did not go the way the Wolves were hoping. The Warriors strong defense and dominance in the paint—with 50 of their points coming from in the paint—allowed them to continue with their lead and take home the win.
