WALLA WALLA, Wash. — Walla Walla University (7-9, 6-8 CCC) took on The Evergreen State College Geoducks (4-13, 4-9 CCC) in a five set thriller. The Geoducks came out on top taking three sets to the Wolves two (25-22, 19-25, 25-20, 22-25, 15-11), after losing to the Wolves back in September.
The Wolves put everything they had on the line, which was shown through the career breaking stat sheet. Sahara Browning had yet another impressive double-double with 23 kills and a season high of 20 digs. Kiana Cueto had a career high of 19 kills and 16 digs, giving her a double-double as well. Natalia Jimenez followed behind adding 15 kills to the stat sheet. Danielle Faamuasili had 28 assists while Melissa Monterroza broke her career high of 19 assists, with an amazing 25 assists. Idalis Bedore had 14 digs for the night.
While Walla Walla out-killed Evergreen 68 to 51, the Geoducks defense topped the Wolves with 87 digs to 85. Lucendy Perez led with 24 digs, followed by Molly Packer (23), and Joy Miyazawa (17). Sophia Scroggins led the attack with 14 kills followed by Lucendy Perez who had 111 for the night. Maloree Calzadillas had 26 assists for the night, while Jessica Mitchell had 18.
Walla Walla will be on the road to Southern Oregon where they will take on Oregon Tech on Friday, October 18 at 2 pm, and Southern Oregon University on Saturday, October 19 at 8 pm.
