WALLA WALLA, Wash. —
Soren Dalan battled foul trouble and put up 19 points in 22 minutes in an 83-61 loss to Corban in a Cascade Conference game on Friday at Windemuth Court.
The loss dropped the Wolves record to 2-11 overall and 1-8 in CCC play.
Dalan made 7-of-12 attempts from the field and 5-of-8 from the free throw line and added six rebounds.
Thomas Mestrov added 12 points and
Kekoa Beard led the Wolves with seven boards.
Walla Walla forced 10 turnovers and blocked three shots, two by
Andrew Vaughan. The Wolves scored 40 of their points inside the paint and led twice in the first half.
Corban improved to 9-6 overall and 7-2 in conference play with the win.
The Warriors had a lot of players see action as 17 players saw the floor and 13 got their name in the scorebook. Spivey Word led with 18 points and Nikola Milosevic added 15.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Corban jumped out to an 11-8 lead four minutes into the game.
Almonds Sebirokwa cut into the lead with a layup and Beard made it a 1-point game with a layup of his own.
The two teams traded baskets as
Steele Twiford got on the board for the Wolves and Beard made another layup.
JT Fenz connected on a jumper to give Walla Walla its first lead of the game at 16-15 with 11:32 to go in the first half.
The Warriors retook the lead before Dalan went 1-of-2 from the line and Fenz connected on both of his attempts and the Wolves had their final lead of the game 19-18. Corban scored 14 of the next 17 points before Mestrov ended the run with a 3-pointer. The Wolves went into halftime down 41-31.
Vaughan hit a jumper to get the scoring started in the second half. Dalan, Sebirokwa and Vaughan scored inside and Walla Walla trailed by 11 with 16:35 to go.
The Wolves went over four minutes without a field goal. Mestrov ended the drought with a layup and added another basket on the following offensive possession. The Adelaide, Australia native scored one more basket in the paint to get WWU to within 14, but it would be as close as the Wolves were able to make it the rest of the way.
