COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. — Walla Walla Women's Volleyball returned home with a 25-10, 25-22, 25-16 victory over Evergreen State in a Cascade Collegiate Conference game on Friday at Windemuth Court.
The Wolves' second straight victory improved their record to 9-7 overall and 7-6 in CCC action. Walla Walla matched last season's win total and WWU is now one win away from tying program records in both overall victories and Cascade Conference wins. Evergreen State dropped to 1-16 on the season and 1-12 in conference play.
"Evergreen fought and played a great match today and the team answered back," Walla Walla coach
Kiana Krumm said. "
Sahara Browning dominated at the net in kills and
Yaimaris Garcia and Paula (Flores) added several aces. Lots of players came off the bench ready to go, making important points in key moments."
Sahara Browning had 21 kills for the Wolves, three more than TESC as a team. The performance placed Browning over 1,000 total points (1,016.5) and over 900 kills (907) in her career. Only Natalie Wilkening (27 kills in 2009) and Browning herself (25 kills in 2024) had better attacking performances in a three-set match in WWU history.
Yaimaris Garcia had 26 assists and four aces to push her season total up to 49 on the year. After winning CCC Attacker of the Week last week,
Paula Flores had 15 digs, six kills and three aces.Â
Sophia Scroggins led the Geoducks with seven kills. Mikayla Kelly had six total blocks and Sue Losey had nine assists.
The Wolves had a solid attacking performance with a hitting percentage of .232 and had 42 total kills with eight aces.
Walla Walla jumped out early and scored the first eight points of the match and rolled to a decisive first set victory.
Evergreen State did not back down and pushed the Wolves in the second set. The Geoducks led 14-13 before WWU ran off six straight points to take control of the set. TESC cut the lead to two several times, but the home team refused to relinquish the lead and took home the second set.
The Geoducks came out in the third set strong and led 9-6 and 10-8, but it was another run by Walla Walla that turned the tide. The Wolves ran off seven straight to take a 15-10 lead and another run of seven-of-eight points set WWU up to close out the match.
