Playoff position set for Wolves after loss to No. 2 EOU

LA GRANDE, Ore. — The postseason path for the Walla Walla Women's Volleyball team was set after a straight set loss to No. 2 Eastern Oregon in a Cascade Conference contest on Sunday.

The Mountaineers (26-2, 18-2) won by set scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 25-19. The win secured the outright regular season championship for Eastern Oregon and placed the CCC Tournament in La Grande.

The Wolves (12-11, 10-10) concluded the regular season on a four-game losing streak, all to ranked opponents, and will have to go on the road for the CCC Play-In game at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Walla Walla finished the regular season in seventh place and will travel to Ashland, Ore. to challenge (RV) Southern Oregon. The winner will go back to La Grande to take part in the six-team tournament starting on Thursday.

Sahara Browning led WWU with 18 kills and added two service aces. Browning finished the regular season with 370 kills, second most in a season in program history. The junior is 38 kills behind her own record of 408 that she set last season. Browning will have a chance to break that record if Walla Walla is able to make a run in the conference tournament.

Yaimaris Garcia added to her single-season records with 24 assists and four aces. The freshman finished the regular season with 599 assists and 71 service aces, both records for WWU.

Vicky Giardina led the Wolves with 14 digs. Natalia Jimenez had seven kills and Paula Flores added five kills. Myckayla Shaver had two total blocks and finished the regular season with 60. Shaver is three total blocks behind Emily Allen's record (63) set in 2016 with the CCC postseason to go.

Keira Vaughn had 14 kills for Eastern Oregon and Kiauna Mack added 11 kills and five blocks. Kate Stidham had 20 assists and Jaycee Villastirgo had 10 digs.
