LA GRANDE, Ore. — Jaylo Bello had 29 points for Walla Walla, but it was (RV) Eastern Oregon that controlled the Cascade Conference Women's Basketball game on Saturday night.

The Wolves lost 89-53 and dropped to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in CCC action. The Mountaineers stayed unbeaten and improved to 10-0 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.

Reigha Niemeyer led Eastern Oregon with 15 points. Kelsie Siegner and Haylee Johnson had 14 points each. Maggie Smith contributed 10 points and nine rebounds.
Walla Walla shot 18-of-51 (35.3%) from the field with 18 points scored in the paint and brought down 31 rebounds. The Mountaineers took control of the game with 25 points off turnovers and 24 fast break points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Bello got the scoring started with a 3-pointer on the second offensive possession for the Wolves. After a layup by Kaiea Waiwaiole for EOU, Coe nailed a jumper for an early Walla Walla lead.

Eastern Oregon answered with a 10-0 run before Coe was able to end the streak with a bucket. Johnson scored for EOU with 3:46 left in the first quarter, it was the only points for the home team in the final five minutes of the first frame. Bello made another from beyond the arc and scored the final five points for WWU, but Eastern led 17-12 after the first.

Maddie Dietrich started the second quarter off strong for the Wolves with a 3 and cut the deficit to just two. The two teams traded buckets before the Mountaineers showed their strong transition offense and began to push the tempo. Coe made a pair of baskets for WWU, but Eastern Oregon went on a 19-2 run for most of the quarter before Bello connected on her third 3 of the game. EOU went up by 20 points headed into the locker room.

Smith for the Mountaineers and Rasmussen for WWU traded baskets early in the second half before both defenses stepped up. Neither team was able to add to the scoreboard over the next two minutes. Siegner of Eastern and Bello traded 3s and Bello added two more points on the following possession to make it 47-29 EOU. Rasmussen added a jumper and made one of two free throws, but Eastern Oregon extended the advantage to 33 before the end of the third quarter.

Bello hit five free throws in the fourth quarter before she caught fire late. The sophomore hit two 3-pointers and a jumper to push her final quarter total to 13. The Wolves held with the Mountaineers in the final 10 minutes, but the home team still won the quarter 24-21.
