Box Score COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. — The Walla Walla Wolves Volleyball team handled business at home with a four-set victory against Warner Pacific in a Cascade Conference contest at Windemuth Court on Friday.

Walla Walla (5-2, 3-1) won by set scores of 25-20, 25-11, 22-25 and 25-8. Warner Pacific was able to earn its first CCC set victory, but dropped to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Yaimaris Garcia threatened another triple-double with 28 assists, 15 digs and eight kills. Olivia Cheek had 16 assists and Deshy Sandoval led the Wolves with 19 digs.

The even-numbered sets were where WWU showed its teeth. The Wolves had 14 kills and two errors with a team hit percentage of .343 in the second set. Walla Walla was even more impressive in the closeout fourth set with 15 kills and one lone error for a hit percentage of .452.

Warner Pacific showed a strong no quit attitude with a strong third set to extend the match. JahNay Jardine led the Knights with 11 kills. Pa'oakalani Payne-Kaeo had 13 assists and Angel Camagay tallied 12 digs in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Knights jumped out early after a service error by Garcia for WWU and an ace for Tayah-Anne Toe for Warner Pacific. The Knights would continue to apply early pressure and pushed the lead to 7-5. Browning had a kill and an attack error by Warner Pac tied the set. Garcia and Myckayla Shaver rejected a ball in the following point and gave the Wolves their first lead of the match.

Warner Pacific did not go away and won seven of the next 10 points to make it a 14-11 set. Catalina Gutierrez Sebastia had a block and back-to-back kills by Browning tied it back up. After the two teams traded points it was Sandoval who lived at the service line.

Kills by Jimenez and Browning gave WWU the advantage. After an attack error by Jardine it was Browning again with a kill. Sandoval earned two aces sandwiched around another kill by Browning and two points later the Wolves had set point up 24-15. WPU fought off four straight attempts before Walla Walla was finally able to lock up the first set.

The Wolves did not mess around early in the second set and won eight of the first nine points. Warner Pacific was not able to win two consecutive points until the final two points that the team won in the set. The Knights made it 20-11 with the run, but it was all WWU the rest of the set. A bad set by Warner Pac, an ace by Adree Selley and kills by Gutierrez Sebastia, and two by Flores gave the home team a 25-11 second set win and a two sets to zero advantage.

The two teams traded points early in the third set, but WPU took advantage of mistakes by the Wolves to take a 7-5 lead and added to it with back-to-back aces by Jardine. Two points later, the Knights had extended the gap to six points. WWU came out firing out of a timeout and regained the lead 15-14, but it was the last time the Wolves would lead in the third set.

Jardine had three straight kills for the Knights and Schultz added one of her own to make it 20-16. Both teams won two points each before Garcia put away three straight points for the home team and Giardina put away an ace to tie the set at 22-22. Three mistakes by Walla Walla gave the Knights the set win 25-22.

The fourth set was all WWU as the Wolves jumped out to a 7-2 lead and quickly pushed it to 17-7. Toa ended a four-point streak for Walla Walla, but it was the last point the Knights were able to muster. After a kill by Browning, it was Sandoval at the service line for the final seven points that concluded with a Jimenez kill for the point, set and match.
