Max Ball

Concept/Objective:
  • The objective is to score a goal
  • A goal is scored by knocking the goal ball off of a tee by using a different ball, also known as the "in play" ball
  • Teams can only advance the ball up the court by passing (you are limited to 3 steps while in possession of the ball)
  • Game play is divided into two 15 minute halves (running time) with a 3 minute intermission

Objective/Rules
  • The objective of the game is to knockdown a ball off the opponent's tee to score 1 point
  • After catching the ball, a player has 3 steps before he/she must pass/shoot the ball
  • A player may freely pivot while in possession of the ball. Meaning, as long as they are staying in the same area, they will not be called for traveling, regardless of the number of steps they take
  • If you are tagged you must pass the ball, and can no longer shoot at the goal*
  • Players must not enter the goalie crease area at all. It will be the goalie's ball if the opposing team enters the crease area**
  • If your own teammate is defending a goalie crease and enters the crease with a goalie inside, it will become a penalty shot
  • Possession: the ball cannot be stripped from another player, it can only be intercepted once it is in the air or on the ground. As soon as a player has control of the ball, whether with 1 or 2 hands, it is considered their ball
  • A player cannot have the ball blocked out of their hands, and must be given at "arms length" or three feet of space to throw the ball. Contact with a player in possession of the ball will result in a penalty shot, repeated attempts to dislodge the ball can result in ejection from the game
  • The penalty shot will stop all play and the teams must line up at half court. The person taking the penalty shot will have 5 seconds to run and try and go one on one with the goalie. After the ball is thrown it becomes a live ball and play resumes for all. The members of both teams not involved in the penalty shot must remain at half court until the 5 seconds is up, or the shot is attempted
  • Once a ball is knocked off the tee, a new player must become goalie
  • New goalie starts play by passing the ball in

*If a player catches and shoots at the goal as soon as they catch the ball, the tag is not counted
** A player on offense my jump into the goal area, if they are attempting a catch and shoot before they land. If they successfully score a goal, it is counted. If they miss the shot and land in the goal area, it is a turnover and the goalie is given the ball.

Watch for:
  • People breaking the crease rules or rough play
  • If the goalie knocks the ball off the tee, that counts as a goal***
  • Loose balls: any ball secured by a player cannot be stripped away by a defender. Even if that ball is pinned on the ground, it cannot be taken away by another player
  • This is a non-contact game. All players with the ball have an "arm's length" cushion to make a throw

***If the in-play ball is on the opposite end of the half court line, then the goal is not counted. However, play must stop until the ball is placed back on the tee. Any action by the goalie thought to be an intentional act to knock the ball off the tee is an automatic goal
