College Place, Wash. – The Lady Wolves hosted their second match in as many days against the Simpson University Red Hawks. The Wolves would start off strong in the opening quarter and lead the Red hawks by a point after one, however big second and third quarters by the Red hawks (2-0, 0-0) and a balanced team effort would lead them to victory for a weekend series sweep over the Lady Wolves (0-2, 0-0), despite a big day from freshman
Jacqueline Saucedo.
Coach
Paul Starkebaum spoke after the contest on his teams effort. "We showed what we are capable in the first half of last nights game and even more so in today's opening period," said Starkebaum. "This team works very hard, and while we will have growing pains, we are excited about the potential of our group. Our message this season is that whatever we do, whatever we accomplish, we do together." Starkebaum continued talking about his teams toughness. "Carolina and Morgan have shown a lot of toughness and have already shown good leadership this season," added Starkebaum. "I know we are in good hands with leaders like them on the court.
Titi Graham has been a really great surprise this season. She is very high energy and never quits.
Itzel Rubio has been a great addition on both ends of the court with her work ethic and skill set."
The Wolves begun the first period much better than the previous contest.
Carolina Montes and
Jacqueline Saucedo paced the Wolves early bringing the teams lead to an early 6-2 lead. Freshman
Aaliyah Anderson would get into the mix as well, scoring the next five points to extend the Wolves lead to 11-4. The Wolves and Red hawks would exchange baskets while the Wolves were able to keep a five point lead late in the first quarter. The Red Hawks would make one final push in the last two minutes of the quarter, ending the quarter on a 5-1 run to put them within one point 16-15 after the first quarter.
The Red Hawks would continue the momentum they ended the quarter with and would ride a 10-0 run to start quarter two to claim the lead as Estella Gutierrez would record two 3-pointers, two steals, and two assists during this run. The Wolves would cut the Red Hawks lead to six from
Itzel Rubio and
Morgan Stanyer free throws, however, the Red Hawks would answer with a run of their own by taking advantage of Wolves turnovers. The Red hawks would end the quarter on a 16-9 run and the quarter would be fueled by 21 points off Wolves turnovers. The Wolves would go into halftime down 46-33.
The Wolves were led by
Jacqueline Saucedo in the first half who recorded nine points, two blocks, and four rebounds. The Red Hawks had a balanced approach led by Estella Gutierrez and her 11 points, three assists, and three made 3-pointers.
The beginning of the second half would see the Red Hawks extend their halftime lead by scoring the first seven points of quarter three. The Red Hawks would build their lead to 20+ in the later stages of the quarter and extend their lead over the Wolves after three quarters to 77-51. Wolves Forward
Jacqueline Saucedo would have her best quarter as she recorded nine points.
In the fourth quarter the Red Hawks were able to continue pushing the pace and would outscore the Wolves 24-12 in the quarter and claim victory in the second matchup against the Wolves with a final score of 101-63.
Jacque Saucedo's career highs in points (25) and blocks (6) would lead the Wolves while
Aaliyah Anderson would crack double digit scoring 13 points.

The Wolves will look to rebound and continue their preseason play with an across town scrimmage with Walla Walla Community College. The contest is scheduled for Thursday, October 25 at 6PM.
