Eugene, Ore. – Walla Walla began their last trip of the season, squaring off against a non-conference opponent, New Hope Christian College Thursday evening. The Wolves were hoping to avenge a three-set sweep in their most recent matchup dating back to August of 2018. The Wolves did just that, winning a thrilling back-and-forth match in five sets, 25-14, 20-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-13 while using a season-high 48 kills to fuel the victory.
THE BASICS:

GAME NOTES:
- In set one, with the score sitting at 12-8 for the Wolves, a decisive 8-0 fueled by Deacon errors gave the Wolves a comfortable 20-8 lead. The Wolves were able to hold on for a 25-14 set one victory, their first set-one victory of the season.
- After being down consistently by 4-5 points early on in set two, the Wolves clawed back to within a point at 16-17. Five errors, however, contributed to a 5-1 run for the Deacons to give them enough breathing room and they held onto a set-two victory, 25-20.
- After being in an early hole in set three, the Wolves battled back to tie up the match 8-8. Both teams continued to exchange points while no team could put together a big run to provide any sort of breathing room. After a service error by the Deacons tied up the set 19-19, the Wolves hustled together their best run, a 6-1, aided by four Gabrielle Browning kills to power them to a set three victory, 25-20.
- In set four both teams held leads that evaporated quickly. After a bad set by the Deacons knotted up the set at 15-15, a 5-1 run gave the home team their largest lead of the set at 20-16. They held off a Wolves rally and took the set 25-19 and knotted up the match 2-2.
- Playing in their third fifth set of the season, the Wolves avoided being in a hole early, as the visiting team built a 7-4 lead. Despite having seven errors in the set, the Wolves were able to overcome their miscues and play solid defense, blocking their way to a set-five and match victory, 15-13.
PLAYER HIGHLIGHTS:
- Gabrielle Browning (16 kills, 12 kills, 6 total blocks) led the Wolves with a double-double. Browning's 16 kills is a new career-high for the freshman middle blocker. Caldora Blackburn just missed a double-double, notching 10 kills and nine digs.
- Setters Krista Schafer (19 assists) and Kaiulani Chamberlain (15 assists) led the Wolves to a season-high 44 assists.
- The 48 kills and 44 assists are the most since 2017 when the Wolves recorded 49 kills and 46 assists at the University of Providence.
- The 16 kills by Gabrielle Browning tie the school record since joining the CCC which is set by Lauren Barlow (2017) and Emily Allen (2015).
NEXT GAME:
The Wolves continue their road trip with their last of two matchups in conference play. No. 14 Corban serves as their first opponent, with the match scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 8.
