Men’s Basketball: Second Half Surge Falls Short in Nail Biter at La Sierra University

Riverside, Calif. – The Walla Walla men's basketball kicked off their two-game non-conference Southern California road trip, squaring off against La Sierra University Saturday evening. The Golden Eagles ended the game on a 12-2 run, preventing the Wolves from securing the comeback attempt.

THE BASICS:
Final:  Walla Walla 58, La Sierra 66
Records:  Walla Walla (3-6), La Sierra (5-9)

 GAME NOTES:
  • The Golden Eagles raced out of the gates to take an 18-4 lead eight minutes into the game, as the Wolves could not find a basket.
  • KiAndre Gaddy kept the Wolves within striking distance, scoring 14 straight points for the Wolves. The Golden Eagles, however, continued to score efficiently and maintained a double-digit lead throughout most of the first half. The Golden Eagles shot 64-percent in the opening half and took a 40-28 lead into halftime.
  • The Wolves could not have started the second half out any better, going on 13-4 run and cutting the deficit to 44-41 midway through the second half. The Wolves continued their offensive attack, taking their first lead at 47-46, as their defense keyed the run.
  • Both teams continued battling back-and-forth, as neither team could build a lead beyond a single possession. The Golden Eagles, however, found that key run, taking advantage of a second chance opportunity off a missed free throw to build their lead to 62-57 at the 1:26 mark. The Wolves offense sputtered down the stretch and the Golden Eagles were able to ice the game at the free-throw line.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • KiAndre Gaddy led the Wolves attack, scoring a game-high 30 points, while grabbing 10 rebounds for his third consecutive double-double.
  • The Wolves shot just 3-for-18 from beyond the arc, compared to 5-for-11 for the Golden Eagles.
  • Despite the Wolves forcing 26 Golden Eagle turnovers, they scored only eight points off those turnovers.
NEXT GAME:

The Wolves will look ahead to Monday, December 16 when they square up against No. 12-Ranked Washington Adventist University. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. on the campus of La Sierra University in Riverside, Calif.
