College Place, Wash. – Walla Walla hosted NCAA D-3 Whitman College Blues on Thursday evening at the WWU Soccer Complex. Despite a 4-0 loss to the Blues, the Wolves improved on their 10-1 loss to Whitman College from a year ago.
The Blues (2-2-0, 0-0-0 NWC) wasted no time, finding the back of the net in the 6th minute off the leg Erik Nielsen. Despite the early goal, the Wolves (2-1-0, 0-0-0 CCC) defense held their ground in a chippy first half and entered the break trailing 1-0.
Coming out of the half, the Wolves looked to find the equalizer and had an opportunity in the first few minutes, however, could not capitalize. In the 55th minute, the Blues took advantage off a foul, as Erik Nelson crossed a ball on the left side near the corner and Sam Johnson headed it into the right corner of the net to give the Blues a 2-0 lead. The Blues struck again, wasting no time, as Sam Johnson, after a
Kudzai Mhondiwa save, converted and found the back of the net on the left side in the 62nd minute.
24 minutes passed before another goal would be scored. Blues Jordan Furuka found Riley Kraft, who converted in the bottom left corner to give Whitman a 4-0 lead. Unfortunately for the Wolves, the clock was against them and the Blues finished off the match, claiming the crosstown battle 4-0.

The Wolves conclude their preseason on Sunday when they travel to McMinnville, Ore. to face Linfield College before their September 20 conference home opener against Warner Pacific at 3 p.m.
