Women's Volleyball: Wolves Fight Hard, Despite Falling to Multnomah University

COLLEGE PLACE, WASH. – Walla Walla hosted the Lions of Multnomah University Friday afternoon on Windemuth Court to continue their season, as the Wolves continued to look for their first conference win of the season. Late game execution would be the key, as the Lions were able to close out a deciding second set 33-31 to take a 2-0 match lead and would eventually drop the Wolves in straight sets (25-16, 33-31, 25-21).

 GAME NOTES:
  • After the Lions closed out set one on a 5-1 run to take the set, the teams would play a thrilling set two. The Lions pushed their lead out to 13-7 in set two, but the Wolves found a way and clawed back into the set. With the Lions holding a 17-14 lead, the Wolves put together a decisive 4-0 run to claim back the lead, but could not get build off their lead. The teams would play into the 30's, as the Wolves found themselves with multiple opportunities to close out and tie up the match 1-1. Unfortunately for the Wolves, they could not string together multiple points and the Lions were finally able to, ending the set on a 3-0 run and taking a 2-0 set lead.
  •  Despite being down 2-0 the Wolves responded well in the early stages of set three, pushing their lead to 12-9 midway through the set. The teams would exchange points back-and-forth, as the score sat in a 20-20 tie. The Lions would have their most important run (5-1), closing out the Wolves in set three taking the match, 3-0.
PLAYER HIGHLIGHTS:
  • The Lions were led by Danae Stokes (18 kills) and Rachel Bailey (38 assists).
  • The Wolves were led by a trio of Wolves: Gabrielle Browning (season-high 14 kills and career-high 17 digs), Meherio Krainer (career-high 23 assists and 11 digs),  and Isabelle Gardea (career-high nine kills)
