Women's Basketball: Wolves Come Out on Top in a Thriller Against the Evergreen Geoducks

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. — Walla Walla (4-12, 3-10) took the win, 49-48, Saturday evening in a thriller against the Evergreen Geoducks (7-9, 4-9).

Going into the half Walla Walla was down by 7 (20-27), but that didn't stop them from coming out on top with an unbreakable defense and a last chance shot from Chariah Daniels with only 5 seconds left in the game. Geoducks tried to challenge that shot but were unable to finish.

Chariah Daniels had a double double for the evening with 18 points and 15 rebounds. When asked about how it felt to win and get that last second shot Daniels stated, "It took a lot of focus to win, and it was a total team effort. It felt cool to get the game winning shot." Jaliyah Casem had 13 points for the game before she went out with an injury. Clara Campos followed behind with 12 points and Paulina Quintana led the team with 4 assists and 7 rebounds.

Coach Tony Nakashima's thoughts and feelings about the win was that "the girls showed a lot of perseverance and resilience, and still rallied with Jaliyah Casem out." He goes on to mention that the game was a total team effort and everyone contributed to the win.

On the Evergreen side, Sydney Vanness and Paris Wilson tied with 12 points each, followed by Monique Bungay with 10. Lily Stewart led the team in rebounds with 9 rebounds for the evening.

The Wolves are back on the road in La Grande, Oregon to match up with Eastern Oregon University on Friday, January 27 at 12 pm.
