Wolves Earn Their First Conference Win of the 23-24 Season Over Northwest Eagles

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. — Walla Walla University Wolves took on the Eagles of Northwest University in an early Friday match. The Wolves came out on top with a 64-55 win over the Eagles, earning them their first conference win of the 23-24 season.

How it Happened:

"I thought we came out with a lot of energy," states Head Coach Tony Nakashima,"it was a good team win and we got some good minutes from the bench." Nakashima looks to reflection on this win and continue to get better.

The Wolves lead started early in the first quarter, with a three-pointer from freshman forward Natalee Trevino to start it off. On the Eagles end, their shots were not falling, not until graduate student Maya DeChesne's scored two off of a defensive rebound from Esther Pappuleas in the tail end of the first quarter. The first quarter ended with the Wolves taking a 16-point lead—4 to 20.

Walla Walla used this momentum to continue the spread in the second quarter. Despite the Eagles getting into double digits, the Wolves' sharp-shooting and pressure defense allowed them to spread the gap a 20-point difference—33 to 13—to en the first half.

The second half the Wolves kept up their energy and continued to deepen the point-difference. This continued energy is what helped lead the Wolves to a win; they were able to keep up with Northwest as they pushed to close that gap. Walla Walla's  energy also helped them keep up their pressure man-defense and in-bound press. This leads them to start the conference season off strong with a 1-1 record.
