COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. — Walla Walla's Lady Wolves have a historic win over the Bushnell Beacons on home court early Friday morning. This, 73-57 win, marks the first win ever that Women's basketball has earned over the Bushnell Beacons, making it now a 1-23 record.
The Wolves had an amazing game, with all of their starting five scoring in the double-digits. This impressive feat had a lot to do with their quick and unstoppable offense as they outscored the Beacons in every quarter, except the first. Their offense wasn't the only thing that helped, their lock-down defense aided in their win as well, forcing 13 turnovers on Bushnell. Head Coach Tony Nakashima agrees stating, "It was a great team win with a balanced attack. We had great energy and made some big shots. Hoping we can build upon their win and continue to get better.
On the Beacons side, their efforts did not go unnoticed with Aspen Slifka having an incredible night with 29 points and four steals, scoring more than half of the Beacons' points. Libby Mathis followed behind with 15 points and five rebounds and two blocks. Aly Mirabile led the team with seven assists.
For Walla Walla, Chariah Daniels added another double-double to her impressive stat sheet, with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Jaliyah Casem followed with 14 points. Freshman Natalee Trevino had a great night as well with 13 points, seven assists, seven rebounds, and two steals. Maren Jones followed with 12 points, going 4-6 from the 3-point line. Clara Campos trailed behind with 10 points.
Walla Walla will go up against the Corban Warriors, Saturday evening at 7 pm on Windemuth Court in College Place.
