Box Score COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. — Walla Walla University got their first win of the 2023 season in a three set sweep against the Warner Pacific Knights Saturday evening (25-16, 25-17, 25-21).
Coach Breayn Bussell is happy that the team got the win when they did, "I am happy we got this win now during the middle of the season, instead of at the end. I am hoping that we keep this energy and momentum throughout the rest of our season." The Wolves had an electric night, with all hitters having a kill percentage that was in the positives, which Coach Breayn Bussell was very pleased about.
Walla Walla played a tough game, showing the Knights of Warner Pacific University that this night was going to be different than previous years—it wasn't going to be easy to beat the Wolves. This showed true, as the Wolves pulled the three set sweep, not letting anything get to them. In the third set, the Knights tried to fight back, tying the score to 10-10. The battle to gain control of the third set continued until Lauren Moody went on a serving run for the Wolves, gaining a five point lead (22-17) which ultimately led to their win over the Knights.
The Wolves had multiple players on the leaderboard tonight starting with Jocelyn Curiel Ruiz and Lauren Moody who both had nine kills for the night, followed by Natalia Jimenez who had eight, and Femke Eising who had seven. Danielle Faamausili had a career high of 22 assists for the night, beating her record of 21 assists against Oregon Tech. On the defensive end, Femke Eising led the team with 11 digs, followed by Laure Moody who had eight.
On the Knights end, Maryann Tulele and Elizabeth Reid had five kills for the match, followed by Autumn Gaboury-Parke who had four. Kyla Reiling had 16 assists for the night and Rose Vasquez led the team on the defensive end with 10 digs.
The Wolves are on the road for their next game in Kirkland, Washington against Northwest University at 2 pm Friday, October 6.
