Wolves Fall to Ranked Southern Oregon Raiders in Saturday Night Matchup

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. — Walla Walla University Women's Basketball faced off no. 20, in the NAIA, Southern Oregon Raiders on home court, Saturday evening. The Raiders took the win, 74 to Walla Walla's 52.

Walla Walla had a slow start to the game, whereas Southern Oregon came out hot, scoring 21 points to Walla Walla's nine to end the first quarter. In the second quarter the Wolves continued to struggle against Southern Oregon's lockdown defense, forcing 14 turnovers on Walla Walla to end the first half. Southern Oregon went into the half with a decent lead over the Wolves, 42 to 17. 

To open the second half, the Wolves came out with a burst of energy, stopping the Raiders and outscoring them, 19 to 16 in the third. However, the Wolves best efforts were no match for the Raiders, as they continued their lead into the fourth and rode to victory.

For the Wolves, only two players scored in the double-digits, Chariah Daniels and Savanah Zamora. Chariah Daniels scored 12 points, along with eight rebounds, and four assists. Grad student Savanah Zamora had a season high of 14 points, going four for seven from the three, and gaining three steals, alongside four rebounds. Maren Jones had five points and two assists. Jaliyah Casem and Natalie Trevino both had four points for the evening and Sydney Folkenberg had three steals 

On the Raiders end, four players scored in the double-digits, Meghan McIntyre, Kami Walk, Sierra Scheppele, and Mallory Williams. Meghan McIntyre had 18 points, followed by five assists, and three steals. Kami Walk had 15 points and five rebounds. Sierra Scheppele had 15 points, and Mallory Williams had 10. Clara Robbins led the team in rebounds and blocks with seven and two, respectively. 

Walla Walla goes back on the road next weekend where they will face Multnomah at 12 pm PT.
