COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. — Walla Walla University (6-7, 5-6 CCC) took one set away from No.3 Eastern Oregon University (17-1, 9-1 CCC) on home court Friday afternoon. The Wolves shook the Mounties as they took the first set from them, but the Mounties were able to finish the job by winning the next three sets in a row earning their ninth conference win, 3-1.
Walla Walla shook Eastern Oregon in the first set as they held the Mounties to only 16 points— their lowest scoring set of the 2024 season. This marked a historic milestone for the Wolves as they have never taken a set from Eastern Oregon in 14 years of matchups. However, the Mounties were not going to allow this to be an upset as they came back to win the second set 25-23, as well as the third and fourth sets, 25-15.
When looking at kills for the match, Walla Walla out-killed Eastern Oregon, 50 to 44. Sahara Browning led the Wolves with 21 kills for the match, followed by Junior Natalia Jimenez who had 12 and Femke Eising who had six. Both Idalis Bedore and Melissa Monterroza had an ace for the match. For assists, Senior setter Danielle Faamausili had 26 and freshman setter, Melissa Monterroza had 17. Natalia Jimenez finished the afternoon with 14 digs, giving her a double-double for the match.
On Eastern Oregon's end, Emma Burlingame had 12 kills for the match, followed by Keria Vaughn who had 11. Emma Burlingame also had three service aces for the match as well. Hannah Ledgerwood led the Mounties with 21 assists, followed by Alexis McMurtrey who had 17. On the defensive end, Hailey Arritola had 16 digs and Hannah Ramage had 10.
Walla Walla will be back on home court tomorrow evening for their matchup with The College of Idaho at 8 pm. The Wolves will also be having a Green Out, so make sure to come in all green to support the Wolves.
