OLYMPIA, Wash. —
Chariah Daniels became the second Walla Walla Women's Basketball player to reach 600 total rebounds, but the Wolves dropped a Cascade Conference game 63-43 to Evergreen State on Friday.
Walla Walla is now 3-5 overall and 0-2 in CCC play.
Daniels finished the game with 12 rebounds to move her WWU total to 603. The senior is 50 rebounds behind Lauren Pernu for the all-time Wolves record. Daniels had a team-high 13 points against the Geoducks to record her fifth double-double of the season and her 33rd all-time.
Natalee Trevino finished with 10 points, the fifth time the sophomore has reached double-digit points. Freshman
Allison Haslam added 10 points, her second-highest point total of the season.
"Evergreen played hard and out worked us," Walla Walla coach
Tony Nakashima said. "We (have) to learn from this and keep moving forward."
Walla Walla shot well in the second quarter (7-of-16, 43.8%). The Wolves had 14 points in the paint and six points off turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Haslam got the scoring started with a layup after a Daniels rebound. Two baskets by Daniels, two free throws by
Jordan Green-Wallace, and a jumper for Trevino gave the Wolves a 10-7 lead with 3:45 to go in the first quarter. Evergreen State finished the quarter on an 11-0 run.
After a Geoduck basket, Walla Walla went on a 8-2 run capped off by a fast break layup by freshman
Jaylo Bello to cut the lead to two. The two teams traded baskets before Haslam connected from beyond the arc to give the Wolves a 27-26 advantage late in the first half. It was the last time WWU led in the contest.
Haslam connected on a 3-pointer two minutes into the third quarter, it was the only made field goal in the third quarter for the Wolves.Â
