KIRKLAND, Wash. — The Walla Walla Women's Basketball team had a 12-0 surge in the third quarter, but fell to Northwest 71-50 in a Cascade Conference game on Saturday.
The loss dropped the Walla Walla record to 3-6 overall and 0-3 in CCC play.
Senior
Chariah Daniels recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman
Jaylo Bello added 18 points.
The Wolves trailed by as much as 22 in the third quarter, but cut the lead to 10 with 4:26 remaining in the quarter.
Walla Walla went 18-for-28 from the free throw line led by Daniels who made 13-of-16. The Wolves outrebounded the Eagles 39-33 and recorded 13 steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Bello got the scoring started for Walla Walla with a layup. Daniels tied the game at four with a layup with 6:54 remaining in the first. Trevino added a layup of her own and Bello and Daniels were successful at the free throw line. However, a 15-2 Eagles run gave Northwest a 25-10 lead after the first quarter.
Trevino hit a layup to start the second quarter. The Wolves was scoreless from the field for over four minutes before Bello was able to hit a shot inside. The first 22 points scored by WWU were by the trio of Bello, Daniels and Trevino until
Hannah Rankin was able to convert on a free throw with 1:54 to go in the first half.
The Wolves had their best run offensively in the third quarter. Walla Walla trailed by 22 before
Sidney Folkenberg made a jump shot. Daniels made a freethrow, Folkenberg scored inside and then the Wolves put on the pressure.
Daniels stole the ball and scored, Bello pressured the inbound pass and took it away for another layup. Daniels then knocked the ball away from Kimberly Carrada San and dove for the loose ball. The senior tossed it to Bello for a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 10.
Bello added another 3-point shot and a layup in the fourth quarter.

Walla Walla will return home to host Lewis-Clark State in its first home conference game of the season at 5 p.m. on Thursday at Windemuth Court.
