WALLA WALLA, Wash. — Walla Walla University Wolves (6-3, 5-2 CCC) took on the No. 5 Raiders of Southern Oregon University (11-1, 5-1 CCC) Friday afternoon. The nationally ranked Raiders swept the Wolves at home taking all three sets (25-23, 17-25, 13-25). This is the second conference loss for Walla Walla this season.
Walla Walla came out ready to play against the No. 5 Raiders of Southern Oregon, giving the crowd an exciting first set only losing by two. The game was neck and neck with the Wolves tying the score multiple times. In the second and third set, Southern Oregon dominated, proving why they are the No. 5 ranked team in the nation, keeping the Wolves from breaking 20 points.
On the Wolves end, Natalia Jimenez was racking up kills, leading the team with 12 for the match, followed by Sahara Browning who had 10 and Femke Eising who had seven. Senior setter Danielle Faamausili had a double-double for the afternoon with 20 assists and 10 digs. Freshman Melissa Monterroza had 10 assists for the match.
For the Raiders, Hannah Stadstad led with 12 kills, followed by Marin Mackey who had nine and Mylena Testoni with eight. Annie Hite dominated on assists with 22 for Southern Oregon. Kayla Neidigh had nine digs and both Marin Mackey and Annie Hite tied with six digs each.
While this was not the outcome the Wolves were hoping for, Walla Walla has another change to split the weekend. They will be back Saturday evening at 9 pm in the Walla Walla Community College gymnasium where they will go up against Oregon Tech.
