PORTLAND, Ore. — The Walla Walla Men's Basketball team kept it close through the first half, but Multnomah played stellar defense in the second half as the Wolves lost 92-63 in a Cascade Conference game at Lytle Gym on Saturday.
The loss dropped the Walla Walla record to 2-10 overall and 1-7 in CCC play.
Andrew Vaughan continued his climb up the all-time Wolves scoring list with a 16 point performance. Vaughan passed
Zayne Browning for second place on the leaderboard and is now at 1,103 points all-time. Only Tristan Greenidge at 1,308 has scored more points for WWU.
Sophomore
Soren Dalan added 16 points and nine rebounds and was 6-of-8 from the free throw line. Sophomore
Thomas Mestrov added 11 points.
Walla Walla shot 15-of-27 (55.6%) from the field in the first half, but were held to 7-of-22 (31.82%) in the second half and turned the ball over 22 times in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mestrov hit a 3-pointer on the opening possession and gave the Wolves an early lead. After an answering 3 by Keilan Torkornoo of the Lions,
Almonds Sebirokwa made a jumper and converted the following free throw after being fouled.
Vaughan connected from beyond the arc, Sebirokwa scored inside and
JT Fenz made a jumper and a 3-pointer. The Wolves led by 16-12 after the opening six minutes. Multnomah used a 10-0 run to take the lead and Walla Walla was unable to get in front the rest of the game. Vaughan made a jumper to end the run, but the Lions led 25-20 halfway through the first half.
Multnomah extended the lead to as much as 13 and led by nine with just under five minutes to go in the first half. Dalan made a layup, Mestrov hit a 3-pointer and scored on a shot inside and Vaughan made a layup. Walla Walla cut the lead to two, but the Lions scored the final four points and took a 44-38 lead at halftime.
Dalan scored the first six points for the Wolves in the second half, but Multnomah was able to extend the lead to 14.
Dillon Wasser converted a jumper to make it a 12-point game, it would be the closest that WWU would be able to get the rest of the game.Â
