PORTLAND, Ore. — A strong third quarter aided the Walla Walla Women's Basketball team to its first Cascade Conference victory of the season in a 74-63 road win against Multnomah at Lytle Gym on Saturday.
The Wolves outscored the Lions 21-10 in the third quarter. The win improved Walla Walla's record to 4-10 overall and 1-7 in CCC play.
Sophomore
Natalee Trevino had a career-high 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting and had five 3-pointers, five assists and four rebounds. Senior
Chariah Daniels had another double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds and was 9-of-12 from the free throw line.
Senior
Jordan Green-Wallace added 12 points and six rebounds. Sophomore
Mireyah Lopez had 10 points, four rebounds and four steals.
The Wolves outrebounded Multnomah 42-28 and forced 15 turnovers. Walla Walla shot well from the field at 47.9% (23-of-48) and shot 50% or better in each of the final three quarters. WWU was 11-of-22 (50%) from the 3-point line and 17-of-24 (70.8%) from the free throw line.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Multnomah jumped out to a 6-0 lead before Daniels got the Wolves on the board with a layup. Green-Wallace hit a 3-pointer, but the Lions went on a 13-5 run to start the game. Trevino and Lopez hit from beyond the arc and Walla Walla held Multnomah scoreles for the final 4:32 of the quarter. The Wolves trailed by two points after the first 10 minutes.
Daniels opened the second quarter scoring with a layup and Trevino gave WWU its first lead of the game with a jumper in the paint. Later in the quarter Daniels completed an and-1 play and Haslam made a 3-pointer and Walla Walla led by five with 6 minutes to go in the half.Â
Multnomuh cut the lead to three before Green-Wallace went on a personal four-point run with a pair of free throws and a jumper. Teyah Clark had three straight layups for the Lions. Walla Walla answered back with a Trevino layup and two Lopez free throws. Avery Reiland scored at the end of the half for Multnomah, but Walla Walla took a 33-30 lead into the break.
The Wolves started the second half strong with a bucket by Daniels, a 3-pointer by Trevino and a 3 from Bello. The Lions were scoreless for the first four minutes and 19 seconds of the half until Jersey Huerta made a layup and free throw.Â
Green-Wallace and Trevino each made successful 3-point attempts and Walla Walla extended its lead to 14. The two teams traded baskets and the Wolves led 54-40 after three quarters.
The Lions cut the lead to eight with an 8-2 run to start the fourth quarter. Trevino ended the run with her fourth 3-pointer. She hit a fifth 3 a minute later. Multnomah was unable to get any closer than eight points down. Lopez closed out the game with three made free throws.

Walla Walla returns home for a pair of games at Windemuth Court. First up is Corban at noon on Friday and then Bushnell comes to town for a game at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
