OLYMPIA, Ore. — Mauro Garrote found the back of the net for the lone goal in a 1-0 victory for Walla Walla Men's Soccer against Evergreen State in a Cascade Conference game on Friday.
Garrote took a pass from team-leading scorer
Paulo Tostado and got it past the keeper in the 53rd minute to help improve the Wolves record to 2-5 overall and in CCC play. The Geoducks dropped to 1-8-2 overall and 1-5-2 in conference action.
It is the first time that WWU has gone on the road and earned a victory against a Cascade Conference team since the program joined the conference in 2015.
Walla Walla had an all out attack with 28 shots and 10 shots on goal in the contest. Evergreen State was only able to get three shots off on the day and only two were on target and
Pablo Ossorio saved both attempts.
It is the first clean sheet by WWU in a Cascade Conference contest since Sept. 22, 2019 in a 2-0 victory against Multnomah.
Garrote finished the day with eight shots and three shots on goal, including the game winner. It was his first goal with the Wolves. The 10 shots on goal by WWU was the most in a contest since 2021.
The Geoducks played a man down for most of the game after Jonas Olvera Calderon was issued a red card in the 24th minute.
