PORTLAND, Ore. — Hours after having its postseason ticket punched, the Walla Walla Women's Volleyball team swept Warner Pacific in a Cascade Conference victory on Saturday.
The Wolves improved to 12-7 overall and 10-6 in conference play with set scores of 25-19, 25-21 and 25-17. The Knights dropped to 0-16 overall and 0-15 in CCC play.
Earlier in the day, Oregon Tech lost to College of Idaho to ensure that Walla Walla was mathematically locked into the Cascade Conference tournament for the second consecutive season. WWU continues to topple program records and tied a team record with a fifth consecutive victory.Â
"I'm so excited to hear we're clinched into the playoffs for the second year in a row," Walla Walla coach
Kiana Krumm said. "This team works hard and it reflects in the win column. Can't wait to get back in the gym this week to start working on our game plan for Bushnell and Corban."
With just four games left in the regular season, the Wolves have also guaranteed that they will finish with a winning record in a regular season for the first time ever and their conference record cannot drop below .500, another first for the program.
Sahara Browning led The Pack with 13 kills and pushed her season total to 307. Browning is the only player in program history to reach 300 kills in a season and now has done it twice. The junior is 101 kills behind the mark she set last season with four regular season games and the postseason yet to play.
Yaimaris Garcia led the team with 19 assists and added to her remarkable season total with five more service aces. Garcia has an insane 0.98 service aces per set statline on the season, second best in the NAIA is at 0.77. The freshman has 63 aces on the year, second most in Walla Walla history for a career and she has done it while only playing in 18 matches. Browning has the current career record at 85 aces and counting.
"
Sahara Browning has had a spectacular season already passing the 300 kill mark, and we still have a few more games to go," Krumm said. "Yaimaris had an amazing performance tonight versus Warner Pacific dishing out five aces, she's currently number one in aces per set in the entire NAIA."
Adree Selley got the start at libero and had 14 digs.
Paula Flores wrapped up another stellar hitting week with nine kills and six digs.
Natalia Jimenez had five kills and is now six kills away from 500 in her career at WWU.
Walla Walla had a hitting percentage of .229 as a team and had 10 aces. The Wolves held Warner Pacific to a hitting percentage of .039 in the win.
Tayah-Anne Toa led the Knights with five kills. Audrey Histed had 10 assists and eight digs and Pa'oakalani Payne-Kaeo had three aces.
