COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. — (RV) Walla Walla jumped out to a two sets to none lead, but No. 20 Bushnell pulled off the reverse sweep in a Cascade Conference contest on Friday at Windemuth Court.
The Wolves dropped to 12-8 overall and 10-7 in CCC action after the comeback victory by the Beacons. Bushnell (17-10, 11-6) won by set scores of 27-29, 22-25, 26-24, 25-19 and 15-11.
With the victory, the Beacons took sole possession of fourth place, one game ahead of WWU. The Wolves have a one game advantage over both College of Idaho and Southern Oregon in the fifth position. The top four seeds earn a bye in the first round of the CCC tournament, the fifth and sixth seeded teams host a first round game.
Both teams filled up the stat sheet with 126 kills, 121 assists, 148 digs, 17 blocks and 14 aces combined. Bushnell earned a slight advantage with a .208 hitting percentage over the .201 recorded by the host team.
Walla Walla had 66 kills as a team (third most in program history) and 65 assists (second most in program history)
The Wolves were led by
Sahara Browning with 21 kills.
Paula Flores had 18 kills and
Natalia Jimenez added 12 kills. Browning (21 kills and 11 digs), Flores (18 kills and 14 digs) and Jimenez (12 kills and 16 digs) all recorded double-doubles.
After back-to-back CCC Setter of the Week nods,
Yaimaris Garcia had 48 assists. It is the second most in program history since the Wolves joined the NAIA in 2009 in a single match. Torrey Haddad had 51 assists in a five set match against Columbia Bible CC in 2010.
On the other side, Hailey Heider had a phenomenal game for Bushnell with 20 kills and 20 digs. Teagan Dixon had 11 kills and Amyah Semau added 10 kills. Emma Fa'alogo led the Beacons with 28 assists and Soleil Sands had six total blocks.
