WALLA WALLA, Wash. — Walla Walla Women's Basketball senior
Chariah Daniels broke her own single-season rebound record, but the Wolves fell to No. 3 Southern Oregon 94-48 in a Cascade Conference game at Windemuth Court on Friday.
The loss was the third in a row for Walla Walla and its record now sits at 7-18 overall and 4-15 in CCC action.
Daniels brought down five boards to move her season total to 263. It is two more than she had last season and the third straight year that the Wichita, Kan. native has set the single-season record. Daniels added two assists and is now tied with Dani Carlman for the school's single-season record in that category as well.
Freshman
Jaylo Bello led the Wolves with 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting with three 3-pointers.
Mireyah Lopez had three 3s of her own and finished with 11. Senior
Jordan Green-Wallace finished the game with a team-high seven rebounds.
Walla Walla hung with the No. 3 team in the NAIA in the second quarter, but the Raiders took control in the second half and outscored the home team 53-18 in the final 20 minutes.
Southern Oregon outrebounded the Wolves 41-24, forced 24 turnovers and shot 60.3% (38-of-63) from the floor. Morgan Baird had 20 points to lead SOU and Eliza DiGiulio finished with 15 points.
The Raiders remained undefeated and improved to 24-0 overall and 18-0 in the Cascade Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Southern Oregon's Clara Robbins got the scoring started with a layup. Lopez took a pass from Daniels and drained a 3 and gave the Wolves an early advantage. The two teams traded baskets before Lopez hit another 3-pointer and WWU had a 10-6 lead.
The Raiders went on a 7-0 run to regain the lead, but Lopez hit her third 3 of the quarter and tied the game. SOU showed why they are undefeated as the No. 3 team in the NAIA finished the opening quarter scoring the final nine points and had a 22-13 advantage after the first quarter.
Natalee Trevino got the scoring started in the second quarter for WWU with a layup and
Sidney Folkenberg added a free throw and a layup. The two teams went back and forth, but the Raiders had a 37-24 lead with 3:44 to go in the half. Green-Wallace connected from beyond the arc and Bello added a 3 of her own to cut the lead to seven. Southern Oregon scored the final four points of the half and took a 41-30 lead to halftime.
With 6:02 remaining in the third quarter, Daniels brought down an offensive rebound to break the record. The Raiders finished the third quarter on a 22-4 and did not look back. With 7:04 left in the game, Daniels reached another milestone. The senior made her 250th career free throw and is second player in Walla Walla Women's Basketball history to reach that milestone (Carolina Montes - 305).
