Wolves earn historic CCC victory

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. — For the first time since 2019, the Walla Walla Men's Soccer team earned a Cascade Conference victory on the field with a 4-3 win over College of Idaho at the Walla Walla Soccer Complex on Friday.

The Wolves (1-0-0, 1-0-0) had earned two CCC victories over the past four seasons via forfeit. The last time Walla Walla defeated a conference foe on the pitch was a 2-0 victory against Multnomah on Sept. 22, 2019. It has been 2,190 days since that last CCC victory for the pack.

Keidin Green had a hat trick for College of Idaho (0-1-1, 0-1-1) with two penalty kicks.

Jose Garcia returned as head coach of WWU this summer, the first time he has had the key coaching position for the Wolves since 2008. Walla Walla had a strong preseason in four scrimmages, and it all came together against the Yotes.

Juan Lobos did not take any time at all to get the Wolves on the board on a counter attack assisted by Lewys Scott to stun the visitors.

Green scored on a penalty kick in the 22nd minute for the Yotes to level the score and made a great move in the box seven minutes later and College of Idaho took its first lead of the game. Paulo Tostado leveled the game late in the first half and the two teams went into halftime tied 2-2.

Neither team was able to take a hold of the momentum in the second half until Jose Roblero took a pass from Tostado and gave the home team another lead, this time 3-2. Five minutes later, Green completed his hat trick on another penalty kick to once again tie the match. Tostado had the game winner in the 72nd minute and gave the home crowd something to celebrate in the historic victory for the Wolves.
