COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. — Walla Walla University has named former Wolves player and longtime assistant coach Tyreek Luckett as the new head coach of its men's basketball program.
Luckett takes over following the departure of Brandon Broome, who served as the Wolves' head coach for the past seven seasons before accepting the position of athletic director at Pacific Union College.

A four-year standout for the Wolves, Luckett scored 831 points during his collegiate career at Walla Walla University. Following his playing career, he continued to compete professionally in Mexico and Greece and at the semiprofessional level in the United States.

Luckett returned to his alma mater as a member of the Wolves coaching staff and has spent the past seven seasons as an assistant coach. Now, after six seasons on the bench and a playing career that took him beyond Walla Walla, Luckett steps into the role of head coach.

"I want to thank God for blessing me with the opportunity to give back to my alma mater through the game I love," Luckett said. "I also want to thank Coach Broome for everything he's done to prepare me for this role and all of the future wisdom I will be seeking from him. Let's work!"

Athletic Director Nestor Osorio on the hiring of Luckett:

"We are thrilled to name Tyreek Luckett as our new men's basketball head coach. Tyreek is the definition of a Walla Walla University Wolf, having poured his heart into this campus as both a standout student-athlete and for seven seasons as an assistant coach. His deep roots in our program, combined with his professional playing experience, make him uniquely qualified for this role.

"Most importantly, Tyreek understands that our ultimate goal goes beyond the scoreboard. He is fully committed to helping us build faith together in our athletics program and cultivating Christlike character in his student-athletes. We are excited to see him elevate our team while continuing to champion our mission of spiritual and personal growth. Let's go Wolves — victory is in Christ!"

The Wolves will open their season on Oct. 23 against Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.
