PORTLAND, Ore. — The Walla Walla golf teams had a better Tuesday as both teams improved on their scores from the previous day to wrap up the Tournament of Knights CCC event in Portland, Ore. at the Glendoveer Golf Course.
Women's Golf
Mariana Posada started her round off on the right foot with a birdie on No. 4, her opening hole. Posada finished the day at 7-over 80 and finished in a tie for 12th. Ayelet Altalef (90) and
Hailey Werner (93) improved in round two over their opening round scores on Monday.
Emily Keel closed out her round with a birdie on her final hole of the tournament, the par-4 No. 6.
The Wolves moved ahead of Corban for seventh place for much of the day, but finished four shots behind the Warriors and finished in eighth place. WWU shot a team score of 355 on Tuesday, seven strokes better than on Monday. No. 4 British Columbia ran away with the tournament at 305, 32 strokes better than second place No. 22 Oregon Tech.
Men's Golf
The WWU Men's Golf team filled up the score sheet with plenty of circles as the six golfers combined for 21 birdies.
Eddie Tache was the highest finishing player for Walla Walla after a final round score of 2-over 75. Noah Devaphalin had five birdies on Tuesday, but missed out on an even-par round with a bogey on his final hole of the day. Devaphalin still finished with a strong final round and moved up 11 spots on the leaderboard.
Andrew Payne shot a 6-over 79 to move up two spots on the leaderboard.
Max Pena, playing as an individual, shot a strong 74 with five birdies that included a three-hole stretch of consecutive birdies.
Walla Walla tied for the seventh-best round of the day with a team score of 309, but it was not enough to get out of ninth place. The Wolves finished the tournament 15 strokes behind College of Idaho for eighth place. No. 16 British Columbia shot 7-under as a team and defeated (RV) Lewis-Clark State by two strokes.
