KIRKLAND, Wash. —
Jordan Jackson had two chances, including one at the buzzer, for the WWU Men's Basketball team to tie Northwest (Wash.) in a Cascade Conference game, but the iron was unkind and the Wolves lost 74-71 on Friday.
Walla Walla just missed on a second consecutive victory and are now 1-22 on the season and 1-16 in conference play. Northwest improved to 9-16 overall and 6-11 in CCC action.
Jackson had 24 points with five 3s for WWU and contributed seven rebounds.
Reese Snellman added 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Soren Dalan finished with 17 points and eight boards.
After a tough shooting performance in the first half, the Wolves got into a groove over the final 20 minutes. Walla Walla shot 47.1% from the field and made six 3s in the second half after making only 36.1% in the first half. The Wolves outrebounded the Eagles 51-49 and had 19 offensive rebounds.
Logan Stempniak led Northwest with 23 points with five 3-pointers and eight rebounds. Trent Williams added 20 points and three assists.
The game remained close throughout the contest and the largest margin was eight points by Northwest. The Eagles led by seven with just over nine minutes remaining before WWU went on a run.
Dalan scored inside with 3:24 remaining and Walla Walla had a brief 65-64 lead. The two teams traded buckets over the next two minutes and Dalan tied the game at 70-70 with a made free throw with 1:06 left. Williams made both of his free throws for the Eagles, Snellman hit one of two for the Wolves to make it a one point game. Stempniak connected on both of his free throws to set up the final 10 second scramble for Walla Walla.
