Wolves Show Strong First Half but Falter in the Second to Carroll College

10/30/2015 10:59:00 PM

Box Score COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – A strong first half by the Wolves kept it close but the Saints scored five in the second half to take the win 6-0.

Early on, both teams looked fairly even with equal time on the ball and with shots. Carroll College's (10-5, 7-3) Riley Prescott had the first good chance to score but a diving Josh Fry was able to smother it on the goal line. Walla Walla (0-14, 0-14) had the next chance to score when they were fouled mid field but retained possession. Aaron Martinez received the ball and broke free of all defenders and with a one on one chance to score on Conor Smith, the Saints keeper, a late whistle was blown on the foul ending his chance.

The 0-0 stalemate was broken when Jose Porras found Jose Mena on the right side of the field who was able to curve the ball into the bottom corner of the goal (34:30). The half ended with the Saints ahead of the Wolves 1-0.

The wind was a factor the entire game with gusts reaching almost 30 mph. WWU had the advantage of the wind the first half but in the second, Carroll College had the wind in their favor and took full advantage of it by scoring five times.

James Lamont took a pass from Alessio Georgiades, using the outside of his foot, and one touched it into the goal at the 61:31 mark. Just four minutes later, James struck again. Alessio Georgianes sent a corner kick across the goal which was volleyed back in front of the goal by Riley Prescott to a waiting James Lamont who was able to get it past Josh Fry, WWU's keeper.

Other scores were Jose Porras (71:21) and Isaac Bostrom (80:30) both unassisted. Jose Porras would strike again in the 88th minute by putting a header in off a corner kick by Nathan Boone.

The Saints outshot the Wolves 44 to 9, 32 to 2 in the second half. Josh Fry led the Wolves with 16 saves while Conor Smith had 3.
