Ashland, Ore. – The Wolves were in Ashland, Oregon today to take on the #4 Southern Oregon University (15-1, 8-0) Raiders.  It was a fast paced game, and Walla Walla had a good game plan going in, but the constant pressure put on the Lady Wolves by the Raiders proved to be too much as the Wolves lost to Southern Oregon 120-44.

By the Numbers
  • Walla Walla had two players hit double figures in scoring.  Emily Downs led the Wolves with 19 points, she also had 7 rebounds.  Sierra Briggs had 10 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists
  • Daranda Hinkey lead the Raiders in scoring with 22 points.  She was one of seven Southern Oregon players to reach double figures in scoring
  • The Wolves pulled down 37 rebounds today, Alyssa Blankenship led the Wolves with 9 rebounds
  • The Raiders shot 61% from the field, while the Wolves shot 28% from the field and 70% from the free-throw line

How it Happened

The Raiders wasted no time getting the pressure up and running in the first quarter.  They jumped quickly to a 20-7 lead with 4:55 to go in the first quarter.  Every time Walla Walla brought the ball up the court, the Raiders met them with pressure.  The Wolves had a good game plan to break the pressure, but Southern Oregon, led by the Bradford sisters, eventually wore down Walla Walla's guards.  With so many young players for the Wolves, it was a good experience for them to see how the high ranked Raiders like to play, it is something hard to understand until you see it in person.  The Wolves starters carried the majority of the load, led by Emily Downs 19 points on 8-11 shooting from the field.  The Raiders played all nine active players at least 17 minutes today, but regardless of who played, they pushed the ball hard each possession.  The Raiders beat the Wolves 120 to 44 when it was all said and done.

Up Next
